Creating a new website for the next generation of plant-based food consumers

1Overview

The plant-based food industry is expected to reach $161 billion by 2030, primarily driven by plant-based meat alternatives. This growth is fueled by increased health and sustainability awareness, alongside ongoing decreases in product prices.

Heura was on its way toward leading this pivotal food industry shift when we started our collaboration. Their website had become outdated, failing to reflect their renewed positioning as pioneers in food activism. To educate consumers about their 100% vegetable products and raise awareness of their position as leaders in plant-based meat, Heura needed a new digital presence.

As their digital partner, we helped them revamp their brand through various initiatives, including creating their new website with a fresh visual approach and a crowdfunding campaign page.

01. A corporate website in line with the brand

We kicked off our collaboration with the creation of the company’s website. We established digital guidelines that upheld the rebranding and set visual standards for colors, typography, photography, and illustration style.

These guidelines also governed user interactions, tailored to behaviors observed on the site.

All the learnings from this initial project proved invaluable for the later creation of the company’s crowd equity landing page.

02. Raising €4 million in 16 hours

Following the corporate website launch, we turned our attention to Heura’s desire to launch a crowd equity campaign to raise funds. We built a corporate landing page with a playful visual experience to communicate the brand’s mission and attributes.

Recognizing browser differences, we launched two versions of the landing page: one optimized for Chrome with animations, and another for Safari with reduced animations to improve loading times.

Heura’s landing page focused on ensuring the message was clear and easily understandable. Within just four weeks, we designed and developed the product end-to-end.

03. User-based design decisions

Analyzing website traffic revealed key user interests in the Homepage, Find us page, and Recipes page.

We gave particular focus to the most popular sections and made significant discoveries:

The Find us page initially served to locate resellers. However, we noticed that end customers were using it, so we redesigned it with this use case in mind. Now, it not only helps customers find stores but also guides them to restaurants featuring Heura on their menus.

Moreover, the Recipes page emerged as a valuable asset, given users’ tendency to seek guidance regarding new products in the market. However, this page lacked substantial visual content, prompting our efforts to enhance its look and functionality. We introduced instructional cooking videos, categorized recipes by occasion, and strategically organized content to align with user needs and preferences.

The Activist page, conveying the brand essence, was enriched with the Manifesto and relevant movies to promote Heura’s social and environmental mission.

04. Rethinking the information architecture

To streamline future maintenance for Heura’s marketing team, we chose a flexible Content Management System (CMS) with a headless architecture. This allowed us to separate content management from presentation, granting greater creative freedom at the front end while boosting page performance for their international audience through static delivery via a CDN.

In addition, we redirected low-traffic blog content to Medium. This way, instead of maintaining an obsolete blog page, they could easily publish content on Medium, requiring less maintenance.

Every aspect of Heura’s website was built with scalability in mind.

05. Bringing details to life

After establishing the most effective way to communicate Heura’s positioning on the website, we shifted our focus to adding relevant details.

Heura embodies a youthful and spirited ethos, distinguishing itself by its fearless embrace of change. We aimed to showcase the brand as approachable, transparent, dynamic, playful, and enjoyable. We brought their logo to life with animation, subtly conveying a sense of closeness while highlighting their meat-free approach with a clear message. Additionally, we created a dynamic product section featuring adaptable recipes, integrated draggable stickers throughout the pages, and even replicated a popular game for the 404 error page.

The product development aimed to highlight Heura’s brand attributes through high-quality interactive illustrations.
